Synopsis

Arriving on a cold December in London, Isobel has sought out an old acquaintance Ernest who offers to share his one room bedsit. Ernest can help her find her feet and he hopes one day Isobel will marry him. She has left her children in Jamaica where their father’s promises of marriage before her children were born never materialised both to Isobel’s shame and the disapproval of her church. Isobel struggles to settle. Tensions in the cramped bedsit increase. Uncertain of her direction in life or who she is anymore, Isobel gives very little away, not least about her feelings towards Ernest nor about her life before she came to England.
