Synopsis

The first half of the play takes place on a desert island in the late eighteenth-century, where an upper-class woman and a black man in his mid-forties are shipwrecked. Alone and adrift from any societal pressure, they have to work out their relationship to each other. The second half of the play takes place in a bar in London’s Ladbroke Grove in the 1950s. A black man and a white woman sit together having a drink and discussing the painful break-up of their relationship. They are cast together in the most public of arenas.
