Synopsis
In the hills above Kingston, a Jonkunnu festival troupe gather in secret as the storyteller and his apprentice follow the tale of the last legal masquerade two centuries ago. Christmas 1841 and two rival Jonkunnu troupes merge, two men – the King and the Prince – vie for the love of the new Queen both in masquerade and in real life, whilst the deposed Queen takes revenge in a masquerade of her own. The consequences spiral into chaos and riots, bringing scarlet coated soldiers onto the streets and leading to the banning of Jonkunnu festival.
