Biography
Award winning playwright, poet and novelist Fred D’Aguiar was born in London in 1960 and lived in Guyana before returning to England in 1972. In 1985 he graduated in African and Caribbean Studies at the University of Kent, Canterbury. His plays include High Life, which was first produced at the Albany Empire, London, in 1987 and A Jamaican Airman Foresees His Death, performed at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 1991. Influenced by the highly politicised atmosphere of the British black community of the 60s and 70s, D’Aguiar’s work explores the complexities of race, identity and dislocation.
